How Leaders Build the Trust That Develops People and Drives Results

The LIGHT Method Leaders responsible for developing other people

Most leaders are directing their people. They think they are developing them.

Most organizations are getting strong effort from their people. They are not getting their best work.

That gap lives in the daily interactions between leaders and the people they're responsible for. Development happens there. In how you respond to a mistake. In whether you coach someone through pressure or take the wheel. Those moments shape what people become under your watch.

In this talk, Cletus Coffey gives leaders The LIGHT Method, five daily behaviors built on the trust-development-results chain. Learn. Invest. Give. Heat. Trust. Each one is a Monday-morning practice. Each one directly changes what a team member becomes.

Every leader leaves with five behaviors they can put to work before the week is out.

The Framework

The LIGHT Method

LLearn — Know the person beyond the role. Their capacity and what they're capable of that you haven't asked them to try yet.
IInvest — Show up fully. The hallway conversation. The two minutes before the meeting starts.
GGive — Real feedback. Specific and given in the moment.
HHeat — Put people in situations that develop them. A leader who solves every hard problem for their team just taught that team where to bring every hard problem.
TTrust — Give them the work that stretches them. Step back. Let them own the result.

Best For

Leaders at all levels responsible for the performance and development of other people. Corporate leadership teams, sales organizations, and any environment where the leader's daily presence with people determines whether those people grow or stall.
